Parallel Parking

if you don't fit in one space after 2 attempts, why would you then attempt a new space that's the same size?

that basically says it all. yesterday on my way to the local Tim Horton's after lunch for my afternoon coffee i witnessed someone try to pull into (or i guess it was actually back into) two different spots. the first one, they made at least one attempt, and i'm pretty sure a second. since that didn't seem to be happening, they drove up the road a little further and tried another spot. i watched them try at least 3 times, each time backing into the curb and not getting any further into the space with each attempt.

he eventually gave up, or he went around the block to make another pass at the parking spots, or to try to find another one he might fit. as i drove by the first spot he tried to get into, i wouldn't have even tried getting into it because it was too small. if you could move your vehicle sideways, then sure, its probably would've fit, but not when you can't go sideways (unless you have all day to spend doing a million 'S' turns like on Canada's Worst Driver). the second spot he tried was just as small as the first. between the two spots there was about 2 other spots that were bigger and probably worth the effort to park in them, but for some reason he drove right past them : /

Call Back ASAP...

So the Alberta Government sent enumerators door to door at the beginning of September to register citizens for the apparently upcomning Alberta election (which I had no idea was going to happen). We weren't home when they came to our house, but on the card they left, they told us to call them back a.s.a.p. Also on the card was a website you could go to to register instead of calling them back. So of course I went straight to the website since if I can do it online, I'm more likely to get it done.

Get this, the website wasn't even available to register online until Sept. 19! that was 2+ weeks from the day we got the notice. So this "a.s.a.p." that was written on our card wasn't exactly urgent seeing as how we had probably about a month to get it done. Gotta love the misuse of as soon as possible. Actually it irks me. Why state that unless it actually does need to be done a.s.a.p., as in it's needed right now.

They ended up coming by 2-3 weeks later to register us so I still don't know why they wrote that. And why let ppl know that you can go to their website when it's actually unavailable until a certain date? I was so close to calling the 1-800 number to complain about that, but I figured I wouldn't get anywhere with it anyway. But it was the principle of the matter that it wasn't urgent and you couldn't use their website. Why lead ppl on?
